This app provides a single point of contact to your home camera network. There is no need to insecurely open individual cameras to the Internet. This app connects using a secure and session-based protocol--no passwords are transmitted in plain text.

Remote access does require router configuration or NGROK, which you can test without the app by using Safari. You should see your Blue Iris login page.

Pros and cons of Blue Iris app for iPhone and iPad

Blue Iris app good for

This is a great iOS client for Blue Iris camera viewing and recording software for Windows. Great because it works without glitches to view live and recorded video. However, the user interface, aesthetically is from the 90s. Needs work, but not from the software developer, but a real UI designer. The price could be raised if that was done. My 2 cents. Apple Watch app would also pay for that.
The app works as advertised. I have no issues to report. Although it is intuitive and easy to use its very sophisticated with excellent features. A very cool and useful feature is that you can select specific push notification sounds for alerts in the Blue Iris server and they will port to this app-- I have four cameras that I have assigned a different sound for each when an alert occurs; this sound is then pushed to my phone via this app making it quick and easy for me to distinguish which camera is producing the alert. Pretty cool. Also, there is about only a 5 second delay from when an alert actually occurs and when the push notification reaches my phone. I could go on about how well the app performs. Im happy. Its worth the 10 bucks.
Update: 6/10/2016 Love this app. I have 2 Blue Iris Systems and this app makes it easy to arm/disarm my systems, see alerts and look at current live view. Highly recommend it. I have had Blue Iris running at home for a couple months and recently got the iOS app. I am totally satisfied with both. I am able to easily monitor and control my system away from the house thru the app. The app is far better way to see your cams while on the go than via the browser interface. The browser interface is ok for desktop remote viewing, but the iOS app makes it much easier. I highly recommend getting this addon. It was well worth the price, which isnt bad considering it integrates so easily to access my system.
Great fit and works well on my media server. I have 4 cameras currently, and slowly adding more. Worth the money for sure. Im not stuck with a nvr with specific cameras.
Those reviews stating that support emails are being ignored must be using the wrong email link. My emails requesting support or advice or with suggestions for enhancements are responded to within hours at most and in some cases within minutes. Ken literally goes "above and beyond the call of duty" in this age of complacency and entitlement.
I use this with my Foscam fi9802 fi9821 fi8910 fi8918. It works perfectly. This software is worth WAY more than Ken charges. The push notifications are very fast, and the synergy between the IOS app and the desktop software is great. This is a rare find when this market is polluted with so much junk. Do not hesitate to buy!

Some bad moments

The support is non-existent. The software doesnt support the cameras they list and they simply ignore all emails. Choose another product.
The date and time of the current clip no longer displays correctly in iOS 10... looks to be moved over to side. This is in portrait mode. Please fix... Good app when working..
I would appreciate a credit for money back for this app. Its miss leading from the begging and very complicated to set up. Apps are supposed to be easier than online web browser operations.
You need to first purchase the desktop version otherwise the mobile doesnt work by itself. They do not tell you that upfront; save your $$. There are other excellent softwares that are easier to setup and cost less (some are free)
1. I always have to restart the app upon entering my wifi perimeter. There is no seamless transition between lte and wifi. The app works fine on both wan and lan though. Contacted dev however they seem to be interested more in what support I have and not fixing the bugs. 2. The geofencing is responding sporadic (see above).
This app was perfect, but since the last version, will crash each time I click on the camera logo. Dont update! Depuis la dernière version, lapplication plante. Ne pas mettre à jour.
